The Lunburg Fifty-Year Warranty
A Philosophical Position on Permanence
We reject the industry's quiet agreement that objects should fail, that seasons should dictate relevance, that landfills are an acceptable cost of commerce.
This warranty is the physical evidence of a different belief: that sustainability means building something permanent, that stewardship replaces consumption, and that the truest form of responsibility is crafting an object worthy of inheritance.
The Integrity of the Work
Material Reliability
We employ hardware engineered for critical industries, not fashion. From zippers specified for defense standards to marine-grade 316L stainless steel, every component is chosen to ensure your movement is never impeded by mechanical failure. Should a component fail, we will replace it.
Structural Resilience
Our Rempliage technique is designed to preempt failure. However, should the integrity of our work be compromised:
Stitching: Primary seams are internally reinforced. In the rare event a structural seam unravels, we will restore it.
Edges: We use folded edges, not paint, to eliminate peeling. Should an edge separate, we will reconstruct it.
The Philosophy of Restoration
Our first instinct is always to mend, never to replace. A replacement erases your patina history; a restoration honors it. We preserve the patina and the unique shape your companion has earned over the miles.
Our first instinct is always to mend, never to replace.

A Shared Stewardship
Our relationship with you evolves over time.
Years One to Five (The Assurance) We cover all shipping costs for approved warranty services. This is our assurance that the work left our atelier exactly as intended.
Years Six to Fifty (The Partnership) To sustain this half-century promise, we enter a model of Shared Stewardship. We ask that you assume the responsibility for shipping expenses to and from our atelier. In return, we dedicate the labor and materials to restore your piece entirely at our cost.
The Signs of Life
We distinguish between structural failure and the honest scars of travel. The following are badges of a life well-lived:
Patina and Softening The darkening of leather and the relaxation of structure are intentional. They are the evidence that the leather is natural and of the highest quality.
Environmental Interaction Scuffs from daily use or damage from neglect: extreme humidity, chemical spills, or overloading.
Unauthorized Intervention Restorations or alterations performed by third parties void this warranty, as we can no longer guarantee the structural integrity of the piece.
The Nature of Our Materials
On Natural Aging We use vegetable-tanned leather, unsealed to breathe. It is not static; it evolves. Sunlight will deepen its tone, and use will mold it to your grip. These are not faults; they are the characteristics of an organic material responding to your journey.
On Water Resistance Our leather is protected from within by natural oils, not by synthetic topcoats that eventually crack. To maintain this resilience, we recommend conditioning every one to two years with Lunburg-approved compounds.
On Dye Transfer (The Mark of Authenticity) To completely lock in color requires sealing the hide in synthetic plastic, killing its breathability and tactile warmth. We refuse to do this.
Because our leather is natural and unsealed, in rare conditions of high humidity and friction, a trace of color transfer may occur. This is the trade-off for avoiding artificial sealants. To mitigate this, we treat high-friction areas (such as shoulder straps) with a light, breathable finish to provide stronger protection for your clothing without compromising the leather's character.
A Legacy Asset
The Lunburg Fifty-Year Warranty travels with the object, not just the custodian.
However, to protect the provenance of the piece, the warranty is valid only if accompanied by the original warranty certificate. This ensures our promise remains reserved for authentic Lunburg commissions with a verified history.
Common Questions About the Fifty-Year Warranty
You may initiate a warranty claim from any country. Contact our Client Liaison at concierge@lunburg.com with your warranty certificate or Digital Ledger entry, and we will arrange the process remotely. The piece does need to return to our Fes atelier for inspection and restoration, as only our Master Artisans can guarantee the integrity of the work. During years one to five, we cover all shipping costs worldwide. From year six onward under Shared Stewardship, you assume shipping to and from the atelier.
Structural failure and natural wear are distinct. A seam that unravels, an edge that separates, a zipper that fails: these are our responsibility for fifty years. Leather that thins on a high-friction area after years of heavy use is not failure. It is physics. Even rock and steel wear under sustained friction; no organic material is exempt. We engineer against premature wear through reinforced stress points and non-scratch feet. Surface evolution from use remains outside the warranty.
We understand that life does not pause for logistics. If you face a genuine emergency abroad, a minor, non-invasive temporary measure will not automatically void your warranty. We ask only that you contact our Client Liaison at concierge@lunburg.com as soon as circumstances allow, and return the piece to our Fes atelier for proper restoration. What voids the warranty is sustained or structural work performed by a third party without our knowledge. An emergency is not neglect. We assess each situation individually.
