To commission a Lunburg work is to become a patron of living heritage.
The master artisans of our Fes atelier carry twelve centuries of inherited knowledge in their hands.

The Inscription
The Inscription transforms a Lunburg work into an heirloom. Your initials, a dedication, or a family crest, hand-embossed into leather that carries your mark for generations.
For yourself, it is the moment a commission becomes truly yours.
For another, it becomes something more: a gesture that speaks when words fall short, a mark of recognition for a milestone earned or a bond honored. The emblem remains. The connection endures.

The Commission
The Commission begins with an established Lunburg design and departs according to your instruction.
You select your leather from the Perpetual Leather collection. You may adjust dimensions to suit your specific carry. An Inscription completes the dedication.
The architecture remains ours; the expression becomes yours.
A work realized to your specifications, through collaboration between patron and atelier.
Through sustained dialogue, you become co-architect of a work born from your vision and our craft. Substantial transformation of existing designs also falls within this tier.
The process unfolds over several weeks.
"The result endures for generations."
This is leathercraft at its most intimate.
A commissioned work is singular; it cannot be returned. The Atelier reserves the right to decline commissions that fall outside Lunburg's design philosophy.
Common Questions About Bespoke Commissions
The Commission tier allows dimensional adjustments within the existing architectural framework. A briefcase sized for a 17-inch laptop is well within scope. Requests involving substantial structural transformation, such as a format engineered for oversized architectural drawings, would likely fall under The Sovereign Commission, where you become co-architect of an entirely new work. Rempliage construction is retained across all tiers; it is never compromised. The best starting point is a consultation with our Concierge at concierge@lunburg.com, who will guide you to the appropriate tier.
The Commission is designed for elegant efficiency: one to two consultations, a formal specification sheet, a 50% deposit, and four to eight weeks of realization. The Sovereign Commission begins with a discovery consultation followed by a 50% deposit that secures the commission. From deposit to delivery, allow several weeks to months. That journey includes design renderings, collaborative refinement, a physical prototype for you to assess, and formal approval before the Master Artisan begins work in final materials.
We welcome ambitious commissions. What we decline are requests that conflict with the principles the work must uphold for fifty years. This includes designs that would compromise Rempliage construction, materials outside our sourcing philosophy, and third-party logos or branding. Aesthetic choices are yours. Our willingness to say no on structural and material grounds is itself a commitment to the patron: every piece we accept is one we can stand behind for generations.
Every safeguard is structural, not verbal. For The Commission, you review physical leather swatches and hardware samples before signing a formal specification sheet and placing a 50% deposit. Nothing is cut until you approve. For The Sovereign Commission, the process adds further protection: design renderings, collaborative refinement, and a physical prototype built in substitute materials for you to assess scale, weight, and function before final approval. Realization begins only after you sign off on exact specifications.
The process begins with your vector artwork. We machine a custom brass die, retained for any future commissions, and apply it through heat embossing under controlled temperature and pressure. Full-grain vegetable-tanned Vachetta at 2.0 mm (0.08 in) is among the finest substrates for this technique: the dense fibre structure locks in the impression. Crests, monograms, and emblems with a minimum line weight of 0.4 to 0.5 mm reproduce with clarity.
The Fifty-Year Warranty and complimentary annual Atelier Care Service apply identically to every Lunburg commission, regardless of tier. Whether standard, Commission, or Sovereign Commission, we guarantee structural integrity and professional care for the full duration. The one distinction is the Buy-Back Pledge: personalised and bespoke pieces are not eligible, as their singularity makes them irreplaceable. A work created exclusively for you cannot be restored for a next custodian in the way a standard piece can. It is yours alone.
