We provide complimentary shipping on all commissions, worldwide. This is our commitment to ensuring that geography presents no barrier between patron and craft.
Due to the extreme complexity of our craft, where a single Opus briefcase requires over 530 unique steps and 30 meters (98 ft) of hand-folded edges, it is very rare for us to hold finished inventory. You are not merely acquiring an object from a shelf; you are securing a place in the production line of a Master Artisan.
The Atelier Queue (Standard Commission) Most commissions enter the Atelier Queue immediately upon confirmation. Please allow three to five weeks for the realization of your piece. Once your work has passed its final inspection, our Concierge will contact you personally to arrange a shipping date that suits your schedule.
Immediate Availability (Rare) In the rare instance that a work is available in our archive and ready for immediate dispatch, please allow two to three business days from the confirmation of your commission. This time is required for our artisans to perform final quality checks and prepare the work for travel.
No. We provide Delivered Duty Paid shipping to all regions we serve. All applicable taxes, duties, and import charges are included in the price displayed at checkout. Your commission arrives with no additional fees upon delivery.
Yes. All prices displayed include applicable taxes, duties, and import charges for your region. We provide Delivered Duty Paid shipping worldwide; the price you see is the price you pay.
Every Lunburg piece is presented in several layers of signature packaging, each designed for protection and ceremony:
The Dust Bag Your commission rests within a soft protective dust bag, which also serves as its home during storage.
The Lunburg Case The dust bag is housed within a rigid Lunburg presentation case, engineered to protect the work during transit and to honour the object within.
The Paper Wrap The Lunburg case is enveloped in elegant paper wrapping, transforming every delivery into an occasion.
The Shipping Box The complete presentation is secured within an outer shipping box, ensuring your commission arrives in pristine condition.
Yes. Upon dispatch, you will receive a confirmation with full tracking details, allowing you to follow your commission's journey to your door.
Yes. To ensure the security of your commission, all deliveries require a signature upon receipt.
Returns & Exchanges
We believe in the permanence of considered decisions. Should your commission not meet your expectations, you may return it within 30 days of receipt, provided it remains in its original, unworn condition with all packaging and documentation intact.
Review our Return Policy for more details: https://lunburg.com/en-nl/policies/refund-policy
To initiate a return, please contact our Client Liaison team at concierge@lunburg.com. We will provide you with return instructions and the necessary documentation.
No. As stated in our bespoke terms, a commissioned work is singular; it cannot be returned. The Inscription, The Commission, and The Sovereign Commission represent works realized to your specifications through collaboration between patron and atelier. These pieces are created uniquely for you and are therefore final.
Exchanges are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact our Client Liaison team to discuss your requirements. The original piece must be in unworn, pristine condition.
The piece must be unworn, unaltered, and in its original condition. All original packaging, dust bag, documentation, and warranty certificate must accompany the return. Pieces showing signs of use, wear, or damage are not eligible for return.
The Fifty-Year Warranty
The Lunburg Fifty-Year Warranty is a philosophical position on permanence. It covers:
Material Reliability We employ hardware engineered for critical industries. From zippers specified for defense standards to marine-grade 316L stainless steel, every component is chosen to ensure your movement is never impeded by mechanical failure. Should a component fail, we will replace it.
Structural Resilience Our Rempliage technique is designed to preempt failure. However, should the integrity of our work be compromised:
• Stitching: Primary seams are internally reinforced. In the rare event a structural seam unravels, we will restore it.
• Edges: We use folded edges, not paint, to eliminate peeling. Should an edge separate, we will reconstruct it.
We distinguish between structural failure and the honest scars of travel. The following are badges of a life well-lived:
Patina and Softening The darkening of leather and the relaxation of structure are intentional. They are the evidence that the leather is natural and of the highest quality.
Environmental Interaction Scuffs from daily use or damage from neglect: extreme humidity, chemical spills, or overloading.
Unauthorized Intervention Restorations or alterations performed by third parties void this warranty, as we can no longer guarantee the structural integrity of the piece.
Years One to Five (The Assurance) We cover all shipping costs for approved warranty services. This is our assurance that the work left our atelier exactly as intended.
Years Six to Fifty (The Partnership) To sustain this half-century promise, we enter a model of Shared Stewardship. We ask that you assume the responsibility for shipping expenses to and from our atelier. In return, we dedicate the labor and materials to restore your piece entirely at our cost.
Yes. The Lunburg Fifty-Year Warranty travels with the object, not just the custodian. However, to protect the provenance of the piece, the warranty is valid only if accompanied by the original warranty certificate. This ensures our promise remains reserved for authentic Lunburg commissions with a verified history.
To initiate a warranty claim, please contact our Client Liaison (concierge@lunburg.com) team with your warranty certificate or Digital Ledger entry. We will assess the matter and provide instructions for sending your piece to our Fes atelier for inspection and restoration.
Our first instinct is always to mend, never to replace. A replacement erases your patina history; a restoration honors it. We preserve the patina and the unique shape your companion has earned over the miles.
Care & Maintenance
Your piece is designed to be cared for at home. Perpetual Leather requires minimal maintenance:
• Store in the provided dust bag when not in use
• Keep away from direct heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight
• Allow the leather to breathe; do not store in plastic
• Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove surface dust
We recommend conditioning every one to two years with Lunburg-approved compounds. This maintains the natural oils that protect your leather from within.
Our leather is protected from within by natural oils, not by synthetic topcoats that eventually crack. To maintain this resilience, we recommend conditioning every one to two years with Lunburg-approved compounds. While Perpetual Leather possesses natural water resistance, we advise avoiding prolonged exposure to moisture.
If your piece encounters rain or moisture, allow it to dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat. The deeply greased fibers are designed to flex without cracking. Once dry, a gentle conditioning may restore optimal resilience.
The same porosity that enables patina grants the leather self-healing properties. Minor scuffs and marks can be absorbed with a simple rub of the thumb; the infused oils redistribute to nourish and conceal. This is the nature of Self-Healing Aniline Leather: material that recovers rather than deteriorates.
The Atelier Care Service exists to complement the Fifty-Year Warranty: to ensure that your piece does not merely endure, but evolves. Should you prefer professional attention, you may return your piece to our Fes atelier once each year for deep cleaning, conditioning, and the revival of its natural resilience. This service is included with every commission and remains available to you for the lifetime of your warranty.
To access the Atelier Care Service, please present your warranty certificate or Digital Ledger entry. This allows us to confirm that your piece is an authentic Lunburg commission and to retrieve its production records before inspection.
The custodian assumes responsibility for transportation to and from our atelier. Stewardship is a partnership. You care for your piece daily; we care for it professionally.
To completely lock in color requires sealing the hide in synthetic plastic, killing its breathability and tactile warmth. We refuse to do this. Because our leather is natural and unsealed, in rare conditions of high humidity and friction, a trace of color transfer may occur. This is the trade-off for avoiding artificial sealants. To mitigate this, we treat high-friction areas (such as shoulder straps) with a light, breathable finish to provide stronger protection for your clothing without compromising the leather's character.
Materials & Craftsmanship
Perpetual Leather is material engineered across seven dimensions to record, respond, and mature. It is realized by our world-renowned partners at Tempesti, a Tuscan artisanal tannery founded in 1946.
The leather originates from Northern European farms, where cooler temperatures produce cattle with denser collagen structures. These hides arrive as byproducts of the food industry; nothing is raised for leather alone.
We select only full-grain Vachetta from the double-bend core: the section along the spine where fibers run most uniformly. Each hide is selected at 2.0 mm (0.08 in) thickness. Ninety percent of the world's leather is tanned industrially, a process completed in hours. Ours requires forty days in wooden drums with chestnut and mimosa extracts.
Rempliage is the art of folding leather back upon itself: a technique that refuses to acknowledge the edge as an ending. Instead, it treats the edge as a continuous curve where the grain flows seamlessly from exterior to interior.
Where industrial methods seal raw leather with paint that eventually cracks, Rempliage folds the leather back upon itself, creating a seamless transition that does not degrade but patinates. The result is a visual quietness rare in leathercraft. The edge dissolves into the form, creating a gentle radius that absorbs light rather than interrupting it.
A single Opus briefcase demands 30 meters (98 ft) of this intricate folding and over 530 unique preparation steps.
We employ hardware engineered for critical industries, not fashion. Our hardware includes:
Marine-grade 316L stainless steel The same alloy specified for naval and surgical applications, chosen for its resistance to corrosion and its enduring luster.
Defense-standard zippers Engineered for reliability under stress.
Acoustically engineered components Designed for absolute silence in movement.
Every Lunburg piece is realized in our atelier in Fes, Morocco, by Master Artisans who carry twelve centuries of inherited knowledge in their hands. Our approach unites the most accomplished masters of Fes under one atelier, commissioning pieces of timeless functional design engineered for generational durability.
Fassi Haute Maroquinerie is the ancestral designation for the high art of leatherworking originating in the imperial city of Fes. The French word for fine leather goods, maroquinerie, literally translates to "Moroccan work", acknowledging that the very definition of the craft was forged in the workshops of Fes.
This tradition was built upon three distinct pillars:
The Dynastic Anvil For over 1,200 years, successive dynasties challenged artisans to produce works of increasing grandeur for royal courts.
The Andalusian Refinement Following the fall of Granada in 1492, Fes became the sanctuary for the refined artisans of Al-Andalus.
The Intellectual Geometry The craft was governed by the guild system (ḥanṭa) and deeply integrated with the University of Al-Qarawiyyin.
Patina is the visual and tactile maturation of unsealed, vegetable-tanned leather. Unlike pigmented leathers that remain frozen in time, Perpetual Leather is porous and reactive. It absorbs sunlight, which deepens its amber tones, and natural oils transferred through touch, which polish the surface to a unique luster.
Over time, the object transforms from a standard commission into a singular artifact. It becomes a quiet ledger of your journey: every mile traveled, every meeting attended, recorded in a pattern that can never be replicated.
The Defense-Grade Visco-Elastic Matrix is our designation for Poron XRD, a high-performance protective foam manufactured by Rogers Corporation. We selected Poron XRD after extensive testing against every available padding material on the market.
Poron XRD is a visco-elastic, open-cell polyurethane foam originally developed for military and athletic protection. It remains soft and pliable under normal conditions, yet stiffens instantaneously upon impact, absorbing and dissipating energy before returning to its original form.
Why Poron XRD surpasses conventional foams:
Impact absorption Poron XRD absorbs up to 90% of impact energy, outperforming EVA, neoprene, and standard polyurethane foams by a significant margin.
Thickness efficiency It achieves superior protection at a fraction of the thickness, allowing us to maintain clean, refined silhouettes without compromising resilience.
Longevity Unlike foams that compress and degrade over time, Poron XRD maintains its protective properties across thousands of compression cycles and decades of use.
Temperature stability It performs consistently across a wide temperature range, from freezing conditions to extreme heat.
This is why we specify it for laptop compartments, device pockets, and structural reinforcement throughout our commissions. The same material trusted to protect in defence, professional athletics, and even the Hubble Space Telescope now protects what you carry.
We define sustainability as permanence. Perpetual Leather begins as a byproduct of the food industry and transforms through a metal-free process with purified water and circular waste. It is built to outlast decades. Our Fifty-Year Warranty is the physical evidence of this philosophy. The most sustainable object is the one you never replace.
Furthermore, forty percent of our profits return directly to the preservation and transmission of the craft through the Lunburg Artisan Fund.
The Buy-Back Pledge
We build every Lunburg piece with the conviction that it deserves to one day rest in a museum, telling the story of its custodian and the story of its craft. The Buy-Back Pledge is our commitment to this principle: we stand behind the lasting value of what we create.
We will purchase any authentic Lunburg piece for 30% of its original commission value, issued as credit toward a new commission. Your piece returns to our Fes atelier, where it will be restored and prepared for its next custodian.
To qualify for the Buy-Back Pledge:
Verified provenance Present your warranty certificate or Digital Ledger entry to confirm authenticity.
Honest wear, not neglect We welcome pieces that show the patina of thoughtful use. Evidence of misuse or prolonged neglect may disqualify a piece.
Original condition The piece must remain unaltered from its original construction.
No personalization Monogrammed or custom-modified pieces are not eligible for buy-back.
Please contact our Client Liaison team (concierge@lunburg.com) with your warranty certificate or Digital Ledger entry. We will assess your piece and provide further instructions.
Personalization & Bespoke
We offer three tiers of customization:
I. The Inscription The Inscription transforms a Lunburg work into an heirloom. Your initials, a dedication, or a family crest, hand-embossed into leather that carries your mark for generations.
II. The Commission The Commission begins with an established Lunburg design and departs according to your instruction. You select your leather from the Perpetual Leather collection. You may adjust dimensions to suit your specific carry. An Inscription completes the dedication.
III. The Sovereign Commission The Sovereign Commission is reserved for those who seek what does not yet exist: an origination. Through sustained dialogue, you become co-architect of a work born from your vision and our craft. Substantial transformation of existing designs also falls within this tier.
The Inscription 2–4 additional weeks
The Commission 4–8 weeks
The Sovereign Commission Several weeks to months, depending on complexity
No. A commissioned work is singular; it cannot be returned. The Atelier reserves the right to decline commissions that fall outside Lunburg's design philosophy.
Please contact our Client Liaison team (concierge@lunburg.com) to request a consultation. We will discuss your vision and guide you through the appropriate tier of customization.

A Lunburg commission represents:
Materials Every raw material is selected and tested to be the finest available for its purpose. From leather to hardware, from thread to glue, from padding to reinforcement, each component is chosen for the highest performance and durability. Full-grain Vegetable tanned Vachetta from Tempesti and marine-grade 316L stainless steel are but two examples. Our padding employs Poron XRD for impact absorption from the USA; our zippers are YKK Excella from Japan, the standard for precision engineering; our thread is sourced from Gütermann Germany for unmatched tensile strength; our adhesives are water-based compounds from Intercom Italy; and our reinforcements come from Lorenzi Lyliane Italy. The same uncompromising standard governs every element that enters our atelier.
Mastery Fewer than 800 artisans worldwide can execute Rempliage to haute maroquinerie standard. A single Opus briefcase demands over 530 consecutive decisions and 30 meters (98 ft) of hand-folded edges, requiring mastery that takes fifteen to twenty-five years to develop.
Guarantee A Fifty-Year Warranty that stands as proof of our conviction in permanence, complemented by yearly complimentary Atelier Care Service.
Preservation Forty percent of profits return to the Lunburg Artisan Fund, ensuring that the craft endures beyond our generation.
Heritage The preserved knowledge of 1,200 years of Fassi Haute Maroquinerie, carried in the hands of Master Artisans who represent the last generation capable of this work.
Design Every piece is engineered for functional purpose. We apply UX focused design and precision engineering to heritage artistry, ensuring that form serves the life you lead.
This is not consumption; it is patronage of living heritage.
The Lunburg Artisan Fund
Forty percent of the profits of every commission returns to the infrastructure of the craft itself. This is not philanthropy. It is necessity. The techniques that define Fassi Haute Maroquinerie exist only in the hands of those who carry them. The Lunburg Artisan Fund exists to prevent severance: to ensure that knowledge transmits, that masters endure, and that the next generation inherits what this one still holds.
When you commission a Lunburg piece, you enter the Cycle of Goodness. Your patronage funds the masters; the masters transmit the craft; the craft creates the object you hold. Ownership becomes preservation. The knowledge endures.
About Lunburg
Lunburg is led by Amien Marghich, a Dutch-Moroccan entrepreneur who grew up among the tanneries and ateliers of Fes, built a fifteen-year global career in technology, and returned to take over his family atelier, which has been operating since 1968. He recognized what was being lost: not merely a tradition, but functional art of extraordinary sophistication.
His position, insider to the craft and outsider to fashion, defines our orientation: technical rather than trend-driven, permanent rather than seasonal.
Lun: the crescent, symbol of renewal. Burg: the fortress, built to endure.
In their union, our founding premise: East and West as collaborators, not opposites. The finest raw materials and engineering precision of one tradition joined with twelve centuries of royal craft from the other.
Lunburg is a Dutch-registered company (Lunburg B.V.) based in the Netherlands. Our atelier, where all pieces are realized, is located in Fes, Morocco.
Yes. Lunburg is a second-generation family enterprise preserving twelve centuries of fine Fassi leathercraft.
